Where: A Mystery Field near me
What: Tree’s and wheat field
When: Friday 2nd, June 2016
With What: Canon M2, Canon FD 28mm TS Lens, f22, .3 sec, On Tripod

I have been wanting to go to this field for 2 years and never either found a way into it or a place to park nearby. Two days ago I bit the bullet and parked more than 2 miles away in the nearest parking spot. I skirted the edges of four fields and nearest the main field, where these trees were I saw a slightly hidden sign which said public footpath. I followed the footpath which lead to a quiet housing estate with plenty of parking, Ahah, eureka.

I got to the tree’s and took a few shots, but the weather was awful and rainy misty stuff kept hitting the lens, so I ended up just walking the dog and came home. I spent a while trying to make the shots I took into a panorama in Photoshop only to realise after 4 hours of stitching that the water on the lens and 18mm angle of the 20 stitched shots were never going to work. Doh.

This morning I decided to go back. The weather had not got any better and was overcast but I wanted to play with the only remaining 35mm film equipment I have left which is a Canon FD Tilt Shift lens I have listed on eBay.
I quickly found the road to the footpath handworked my way to the tree. By the time I’d got near to the tree I must have been at least two foot taller as the mud had stuck to my boots. I settled in to taking multiple shots in the hurricane winds from all angles for my scrapbook, my aim was to play with the compositions when I got home and prepare to go back when the weather was maybe a little more favourable.
It was then I heard a shotgun go off and a dozen or so Quails leapt into the air and flew off. Broken from my dreamy photographing state I looked up to see the dog sprinting back up the hill toward me. Oh shit! What just happened!?

Farmer? Landowner? Both? Sod it, I thought, I’m off!

Not having prepared for a quick getaway I ran, as best I could, down the hill in the opposite direction to the bang, my feet getting heavier as I ran and the dog gleefully chasing beside me looking happy that this was some sort of new game.
Having attempted to take a short cut to the hidden footpath I hobbled wildly toward it across two tractor tracks and immediately caught a flipping wire which set off another loud bang and saw a flash go off. The dog leaped up in the air and I skewed off and fell into the mud so I could protect the camera and tripod. Wallop.
Now covered in mud I crawled like a sniper to the footpath only to meet two elderly ladies walking their Jack Russell dogs who were yapping at me.

“Good morning” I said, picking myself off the floor and making a hasty exit for the car. “Morning” they replied and exchanging quizzical looks as I hobbled past. I realised later that the dog and I had caught a couple of bird scarers randomly left by a farmer, phew. At least I wasn’t being shot at!

Oddly I can’t wait to go back and try again.

I hope you like it.

A 8 shot tilt/shifted picture and stitched Panorama in Photoshop, converted to B&W grain added and sharpened 3 times in Photoshop with Nik software. Compressed the extensive foreground to make the shot into a 4×5 size as I wanted a grainy style photo.
Then a signature shoved on it for good measure.
